چکیده
is a particularly valuable source of protein with high nutritional value and functional properties. Australia and Southeast Asia are net importers of soybeans and soy products with a significant cost to the region. On the other hand, lupins offer properties comparable with soy, at less than half the cost. Although extensively used in stockfeed applications, lupins remain under-utilised in potential food applications.

متن کاملLegume Consumption and All-Cause and Cardiovascular Disease Mortality
Background Legume consumption is suggested to have protective effects against cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality in the general population, but the results have been equivocal. We conducted a meta-analysis of prospective cohort studies to assess the association between legume consumption and risk of CVD mortality and all-cause mortality. Methods and Results Medline (via Ovid) and EMBASE (...

متن کاملPotential of legume-based grassland–livestock systems in Europe: a review
European grassland-based livestock production systems face the challenge of producing more meat and milk to meet increasing world demands and to achieve this using fewer resources. Legumes offer great potential for achieving these objectives. They have numerous features that can act together at different stages in the soil-plant-animal-atmosphere system, and these are most effective in mixed sw...
متن کاملThe use of legume and herb forage species to create high performance pastures for sheep and cattle grazing systems
Sheep and cattle farmers need pastoral systems that are more productive and environmentally sustainable. The role that high feeding value herb and legume forage species can play in the farms of the future is highlighted. It is shown that species such as chicory (Cichorium intybus), plantain (Plantago lanceolata), red clover (Trifolium pratense) and white clover (T.repens) can provide live weigh...
متن کاملThe Legume-rhizobia Symbiosis under Salt Stress - a Review
Salinity is one of the severe problems in worldwide agricultural production. Soil salinity limits the productions of both forage and grain legumes. Adverse effects of salinity are mediated through detrimental effects on the rhizobium legume interactions that lead to the establishment of the nitrogen fixing symbiosis. Salt stress inhibits the initial steps of the rhizobia legume symbiosis. For i...
